DREGGS 2020
The Dollar Retired & Elderly Gentlemen's Golfing Society (The DREGGS) had a long and very successful history within Dollar Golf Club meeting, as they did, at 9.00am on Tuesdays and Thursdays for friendly, convivial but competitive golf.
Unfortunately, with the demise of Dollar Golf Club at the end of December 2019, the DREGGS cannot continue in its current format. But that does not mean that the DREGGS will wither and die. So much friendships and camaraderie has been built up over the years that we feel that it cannot be allowed to evaporate.
We intend to keep the DREGGS alive as a Golfing Society. At present the plan is to arrange "outings" every month or six weeks at the various clubs to which the Dollar GC members have elected for transfer of their membership. We would take advantage of the member benefits (e.g. member guest fees) to keep costs at economic levels.
The proposed outings would likely take the form of those previous with coffee and a hot roll, 18 holes of golf and a soup and sandwich lunch. There would also be the usual "nearest the pin" and "longest drive" competitions. The total cost of any outing, including prizes, would be totalled and divided by the number of members taking part - irrespective if you are a member of the particular club or not. It is anticipated this would balance itself out over the course of a season.
The clubs which the current DREGGS have transferred to are Milnathort (9 holes), Dunning (9 holes), Muckhart (27 holes) and Shawpark (18 holes), these four clubs forming the nucleus of the initial outings. In due course, if DREGGS 2020 is successful, we could widen the range of clubs to visit.
An annual DREGGS membership fee of 10 would be levied for payment in March. This fee is to cover admin, advance booking costs and the up-front purchases of prizes. It would also go some small way to helping with the cost of the outings. We would hope that members would recover their initial outlay over the course of the season.
The Dollar Golf Club website will remain live for at least another year with the DREGGS updates being the main source of newsworthy items.
