DUE LATEST "COVID" RESTRICTIONS DREGGS OCTOBER OUTING TO SHAWPARK IS CANCELLED

The closure of Dollar Golf Club was confirmed at the AGM on 18th November and golf operations were discontinued following the "Final Fling" on Tuesday 31st December 2019. With falling membership, not alone in Scotland, the Club has been struggling to avert closure for the past few years. Much effort was put in to keep the Club going but it had been losing money for some time and efforts to find funding elsewhere were unsuccessful. To meet the resultant commitments, redundancy of staff, etc, it was considered unwise to struggle on only to meet cash problems in the coming year. Accordingly but reluctantly, the Club Council reached the conclusion, supported by members at the AGM following a detailed presentation of the circumstances, that the only option was for closure at the end of this year - 2019.

Course Described
Over one hundred years old Dollar was typical of the Scottish village golf courses. Set out by Ben Sayers on the slopes of the Ochils it was unusual in that, dictated by the terrain, there were no bunkers. The signature hole was the Second which was only 97 yards long but a blind shot to an elevated green where failure to get up was likely to cost you. A short course built before the days of modern technology it was, nevertheless, a fair challenge. Hilly and testing, every shot required careful thought. A burn featured on some seven holes, there were decisions to be made on the tee and every shot had to be played with terrain and the vagaries of Scottish weather in mind. Let those who wanted to play their target golf play it, this was the traditional variety!
