Dollar Golf Club

Pictured below, on their trips to Scotland, are some of our overseas visitors and affliate members.

From the United States
George Forsgard, Kyle Forsgard, Fred Forsgard and Jack Paster visitors from the coastal town of Marblehead, Massachusetts, contested a family four-ball better ball over the course on Monday 20th May 2019. The weather was almost dry but it wouldn't have been Dollar without some gentle rain during their round.

From Germany
Ariana and Ralf Taus were visitors from near Dsseldorf on Thursday 10th April, 2018, having played over the hills at Geneagles the day before. They seemed unfazed by the bitterly cold east wind that raked the course for most of the day.

From the USA
Sampling the Scottish weather and from Cary, North Carolina (where in was a sunny 31°C), Doug Beary with sons Shafer and Pierce, played the course (where it was 12°C and very wet) on Saturday 20th May, 2017. They coped well with the slopes quickly recognising that a good degree of local knowledge must give the regulars an edge.

From Canada
William Lloyd, Mike Goodale and Andy Goodale played the course on Wednesday 10th May, 2017. Conditions were unusual in that after a fair spell of warm, sunny weather the course was quite fiery with some unexpected bounces. Unfamiliar with the course and considering the borrowed (and very old) clubs they used they played the course extremely well.

From Canada
Fred Sprenger from Ottawa played the course on Thursday 1st September 2016 in company with two members. With an old set of borrowed clubs and his first time on the course he put together a reasonable round but, undoubtedly (displaying the ball he used), the highlight was his eagle three at the par 5 12th hole.

From the United States of America
Thom Greenlaw from The Ethel Walker School in Connecticut, found time to play the course on 14th June, 2014, whilst on academic duties at Dollar Academy.

A Return Visit from Austria
Peter Androsch of Vienna (on the right) likes to visit his "Home Club" when he can and, this time, on a two days visit, together with colleague Peter Buchegger, they played the course on Thursday 26th September 2013.

Ten years on!
It was in September 2003 that Dollar member Hans-Rudolf Rechsteiner last played the course. He returned on 16th August 2013 in company with Heidi Wagner, a Dollar member since September 2012, to play the course for her first time. From Switzerland they were at home on the slopes of Dollar!

There was sunshine with a brisk breeze for the six Russian visitors from Moscow and Geneva who played the course on Sunday 4th August 2013.

Journey to the Heart of Scottish Golf
From the USA Ron Theis of Corvallis, Oregon, played the course on 16th August 2012. His visit was inspired by the book 'Preferred lies' written by Andrew Greig which includes an interestingly descriptive last chapter about Dollar Golf Course. Pictured with Ron is his wife Pam who opted out of walking the slopes to visit Dollar Glen and Castle Campbell.

ROOTS
From the Detroit in the USA the four sons of Iain Alaxander who was born in Dollar and attended Dollar Academy (circa 1935) visited Dollar on Thursday 16th August, 2012. Pictured (L-R) Adam, Eric and Malcolm Alexander played the course whilst brother Robin toured the town. It was grandfather who took the family to Detroit where he was employed in the motor industry. Grandmother, Elizabeth Alexander (nee Robertson), was a teacher at the Academy.

Gerd and Martina Steinhörster of Detmold, Germany, played the course on Saturday 4th August 2012.

Dollar Member Peter Androsch of Vienna, Austria, played the course on Tuesday 31st July 2012 and wife Susan provided the glamour.
